Michael Buble in Raleigh – Concert Review

*if anyone has any pictures form the Michael Buble show in Raleigh can you please send them to me at evankroberts[@]Gmail

For our first anniversary I broke the “no gift” rule, a move that maybe my future downfall (more on that later), and bought Jen and I tickets to go see Michael Buble in Raleigh at the Memorial Auditorium. For those who don’t know who he is, he is a singer who experts are calling a young Frank Sinatra, and after the show I can see why. I had never heard of him until Jen had lent me her CD, but he is really amazing and I’ve been a big fan ever since.

Needless to say we were both very excited to go to this show and we were not disappointed. I think I can easily say that was the best show I’ve ever seen. Better then any concert, play, show, opera, etc. Buble has his long time friend Tim Something, a comedian, open up the show and loosen the crowd up for 15 minutes or so. No ground breaking humor but he was entertaining.

The lights go black, and you see a white screen on stage and Buble’s silhouette appears, the lights are dramatic and Buble starts into his song “Feeling Good”. If you’ve watched ESPN you’ve no doubtedly heard this song as it was the theme for this years World Series of Poker. A few lines in, the band breaks into the song. It’s a 12-piece band consisting of 2 trombones, 3 saxophones, 3 trumpets, base player (the violin looking bass), guitar player (mostly bass), drummer and a piano.

Buble’s voice booms throughout the Memorial Center crowd of about 4,000, the crowd of 75% females ranging in age from 16-80, screams and thus began their collective 2hr orgasm. I’ve been to many concerts and shows in my life but never have I seen an entertainer with that effect over females (or a crowd in general), with every shake of his leg and bellow of his voice you could hear the skirts melting off the ladies. After seeing this display, I can only begin to imagine what an Elvis show was like.

Buble was more then a nifty shaker and a amazing voice. Between each couple of songs he would have a monologue and although it may have been canned, it seemed very impromptu as he interacted with the audience all evening. One such instance he was making fun of all the people taking pictures (an obscene amount) when a lady in the very back yelled “Well Come closer” which he promptly jumped off the stage and ran up the isle all the way to the back and down another isle, all the while stopping for a few hugs, pictures and “random ass grabs”.

He ended up singing all of his big songs “Fever”, “Moondance” (our wedding song), “Home”, and “Feeling Good” to name just a few. Buble’s set also included a Ray Charles song, Johnny Cash (with Buble on the Guitar), Charlie Chaplin, Michael Jackson (only one verse), and Frank Sinatra’s “Under My Skin”. All in all he ended up singing for about 2 hours and every bit of it was amazing.

Michael Buble was more then a singer he was a true entertainer and I can understand why he’s become so popular worldwide so quickly. If he ever comes to your city I encourage you to take the time to go and see his show. Although my recap doesn’t do it enough justice, I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

**You can listen to his songs at his website:
the controls on are the top right. Very small.

**jen will probably have more to add to when she wakes up from her Buble filled dreams.

**Michael dominated the Juno Awards (The Canadian Music Awards), winning FOUR awards!! He took home BEST SINGER, BEST ALBUM (for “It’s Time”), BEST ARTIST, and POP ALBUM OF THE YEAR (for “It’s Time”).
