Google coming to North Carolina?
Gov. Easley offered the Googlers about $5million to bring another GooglePlex to NC .
Google is said to be looking for sites to build “server farms” – large facilities for hosting of servers to support is massive data operation.
I’m really not sure why they would choose Lenoir of all places but it is easy to see why the Gov. is courting them so strongly. It is estimated that Google would make a $600 million dollar investment to the area and state which would provide a much needed revitalization after the loss of so many textile jobs recently.
Google is planning to expand its technology infrastructure and is looking at several different sites, including one near Charleston, S.C., a company spokesman told The Post and Courier of Charleston last week.
It is far from definite but the prospect is exciting. While it is only server farms it still gives NC a foot in the door to try out many other Google services like Google does with San Francisco.
