Happy Birthday Dad

Today is my Dad’s birthday (actually yesterday but blogger was having issues for me) so I want to wish him a Happy B-day. He’s old, but also the youngest old guy I know :). I hope I am in half of the shape he is in when I’m his age. My dad means the world to me and without him I wouldn’t be as kickass as I am today. He has taught me everything I know directly and some indirectly (sans computer knowledge) and I thank him for it. Without him I wouldn’t be able to hit a baseball, throw a baseball, hit the big tee shot, knock it down from 100 yards and in, shoot a jumpshot, fish, bike, drive, although I can still throw a better spiral with a football then him :) and that is only sports related. He’s taught me a lot that has made me what I am today and I’m appreciative for it. He’s worked hard to make sure my brother, sister and I have every advantage we could possibly need and he’s provided us with that and so much more. Even through all the stupid mistakes I’ve made.

I’ve had some of the best times of my life with my dad doing some things I’ll never forget. Spring Break road trip to Florida to go Bass fishing on Lake Okeechobee, my Thursday golf lessons with David Orr (and our Vincents Pizza after), my last trip with my dad in the cockpit (we went to Japan), hitting golf balls on the drive range with the little Japanese people, sakè!, Milan, the tons of bread and cookies brought home from his trips abroad and all my sporting events where he’d watch from the distance or behind a tree so that he wouldn’t make me nervous.

I hope I can be half as good of a dad to my kids.

Thanks for everything Dad, I hope you had a great birthday!

Dude, it’s good to see the old traditions of family togetherness haven’t died. Today’s children will not have those memories because they’re too busy playing with their Playstation, IMing friends on the Internet, or just don’t enjoy spending time with family. Keep it up, make sure your son feels the same way about you.
