Brazilian Steakhouse Raleigh, Rio Churrascaria

This post is long overdue but I kept forgetting to write about my first experience at Rio Churrascaria, the Brazilian Steakhouse in Raleigh. My in-laws took my wife and I there back in October and it was unreal. I’ve never eaten so much high quality meat at one time in my life.
Dining starts with a trip to the exotic salad and appetizer bar which features shrimp salad, calamari salad, smoked salmon, mixed olives, marinated mushrooms, grilled asparagus, mussels in white wine and many other items that you shouldn’t fill up on b/c the main course is amazing.
The main course at the Brazilian Steakhouse is the highlight of the meal. You start by flipping your ‘chip’ from the red side to the green side which means you are ready to eat! The Gauchos (meat carvers) (aka the guys with the big swords of meat), walk around to the tables who have the green chip showing and ask you if you would like the meat they are carrying, if you say yes, they will carve some off onto your plate. This process continues until you can no longer fit in your pants. Some of the meats they come around with are Bacon wrapped Filet Mignon, beef picanha, Garlic Beef, Top Sirloin, Bottom Sirloin, Pork ribs, everyone’s favorite Chicken Hearts, pork sausage, pork loin, chicken legs, bacon wrapped chicken breast and leg of lamb. How acan you beat that!?
The Brazilian Steakhouse in Raleigh is no joke and it is definitely worth the $25 just be sure to bring your appetite.

I have been wanting to try this place. Ely talks about it all the time! They are opening a brazilian steakhouse in briar creek…think its called brasa??
Hope you are doing well-
Sam
Rio Churrascaria is pretty good, but right now, in my opinion, Chamas in BrightLeaf Square has it beat. I’ve eaten at both restaurants several times and Chamas is better. The Chamas “non-meat” bar is bigger with more items as well. I’ll eat at Rio again, but if you like Rio, please try Chamas, you won’t be disappointed!

As a side note, I’ve only had lunch at Chamas with the restaurant never more than half full. In general, you want to go to a Churrascaria when there are more people as the meat tends to be fresher.
I’ve to Chamas and I believe it is the only one that is authentic, everybody was brazilian and they know how to do it. I’ve been to Brazil and they are as good as the one’s there. As far as Brasa , looks like a mediterranean restaurant, what the hell are those letters in greek, strange place, strange and snob people, couldn’t have fun, hated the place
I ate at the second location, named Brasa, and the food was spectacular! A large spread of salad, fresh fruit and cold meat salads that would be enough for the hungriest person. Along side the salad bar was the meat bar which had dishes ranging from meatloaf, black beans and yellow rice, shrimp scampi, chicken curry, meatballs, and poached salmon (the fish was fantastic!). All of this for only $10!! We were absolutely floored. Also, the manager, I believe his name was Eduardo, was so nice he stopped and spoke with us for nearly 10 minutes, ensuring the food was to our liking and giving us background on the restaurant. To boot, the atmosphere was luxurious. Red materials, dark woods, frosted glass and a beautiful metal and stone fountian in the center of the restaurant gives customers a relaxing, yet luxurious feeling. I would highly recommend this place to anyone for casual or business lunch. You’re sure to impress whomever you bring.
I live in the Norfolk area and I am very excited about the prospects of one coming this way. When do you think that restaurant is coming to this area?
