A football weekend…..viva la mexico
So my weekend of football is complete and unlike what Thomas said, we did not sell our tickets and run off to Mexico. I’m waiting in the Seattle Airport for my red-eye flight back to Morrisville, North Carolina, aka MoVille and I know I will get a lot of questions about my trip and about the games so I figure instead of telling the same story over 90 times ill just post about it.
I got out here friday afternoon on a pretty normal flight, hell anything is normal compared to my last trip to seattle(a 28hr epic journey)! T took me out to this grill/bar in downtown Bellevue for my birthday dinner where we ate some burgers, drank some Anchor Steams (mmmm!) and just caught up with whats going on.
I’m not quite sure I could get used to ESPN’s College Gameday being on a 7am but sure as shit, I woke up at 6:55am and knew it was time for Chris, Lee and Kirk. I guess its my 6th sense. After Gameday, we headed out to Pike’s Place Market, the famous market where you see them tossing fish, and we ate at a little hole in the wall diner that Rob Reiner and Tom Hanks were sitting in during the filming of Sleepless in Seattle. Thankfully they had the stools labeled b/c I’ve never seen the movie, but it was a cool place with an amazing view of Lake Washington. The whole market was awesome, wall to wall vendors of flowers, fruit stands, hand crafted things, coffee shops, bakeries, fish markets, and tons more. I think I would spend every Saturday just walking around down there if I lived there. Feel free to check out my pics of Pike’s Place Market here. A professional photographer couldnt have captured the essence of the market, along with the sites and sounds it also smelled amazing. Everyone should spend at least one Saturday morning there.
After the market, we headed down to the Univ. of Washington campus and found the cheapest parking we could find ($20). We followed the purple crowd across the very pretty campus and down to Husky Stadium. It’s an oddly shaped stadium with a unique design but its also very sceneic stadium with the backdrop of Lake Washington. It was a gorgous day about 65 degrees, sunny and perfectly clear. While we walked up to the stadium you could see the boats pulling up to the docks with people tailgating on water(if you can call drinking on a boat tailgating)! Hopefully they drank enough before the game to prepare themselves for the slaughter they were getting ready to be dealt at the hands of Southern Cal. It was a really good time although the game was sort of anti-climatic, we still got to see Reggie Bush and Matt Lienart, along with hearing one of the best fight songs out there live. Even with the traveling band which is noticably smaller then the regular marching band, the USC fight song is second to none.
The USC vs Washington Game:
Husky Stadium is always known as one of the toughest places to play and given the design, I can see why. It’s very sloped and the roof on each side really traps in the sound, but when your team is 1-5 as Washington is, the crowd is a little less enthusiastic. Washington took the opening kickoff 95 yards down to the USC 5 yard line (thomas got a great video of it) but Washington could not even move the ball and actually lost a yard. They kicked a fieldgoal and took the lead, could we be on the verge of the biggest upset in football history? That only lasted for a few seconds. USC went right down the field and scored and while Washington played a perfect first quarter they actually had the lead 10-7 at the end of the quarter. That was the end of it.
Washington began to show its true colors and USC decided to wake up for a quarter. Several Matt Leinart TD’s and a insane Reggie Bush punt return put USC up 37-10 at the half and that was the end of it. USC put in the scrubs in the second half and still ended up winning 51-24. T and I decided to go the cheap route and get general admission tickets, which turned out to be a blessing. 5 of the 7 TD’s happened right in front of us, including Reggie Bush’s punt return, Dwayne Jarrett’s sick 1 handed, and several other nice plays. We got some good pictures and a couple videos. Seattle Photos. Video’s coming.
I’ll post about the Seattle Seahawks and Qwest Field next.
