I Want to Write a Book

So yea I want to write a book.  The only problem is I can’t really write very well and I don’t have the slightest clue what I would write about.  I always did ok writing stories in 4rth grade but they were usually about random aliens in the woods and shit like that, not exactly Noble Prize winning stuff.

Not only was I bad in post-4rth grade English class, my vocabulary is limited to what is in my spell check and grammatically I couldn’t write my way out of Ms Willner’s 5th grade class.  So that leaves me with the question for anyone who cares to answer: What in the world should I write about?

  • Hi Robert,

#1. You are a very good writer!
    2. I use to have a real hard time writing because I cannot spell to save my life. For some reason I cannot picture words in my mind. In college I dropped my freshman English class 4 times because I could not write. The problem was I was worrying about the mechanics and not subject. Finally I got a professor who told me the secret to writing. 1. You write from the heart don't worry about spelling or grammar. 2. Write in a way that makes it enjoyable for your readers. 3. After you get all that on paper then have someone check for spelling and grammar. It is a left brain right brain thing. You can only use one at a time effectively. The passion and creativity is one side and the grammar and spelling is on the other. Can't do both. It is like golf. The best shots are the ones you don't think about. The ones where you are think about stance, head down, rolling your hands and stuff like that are the ones that usually end up on the other fairway or off the head of the guy in the tee box over to the right (personal experience).

    Food for thought.

    Good luck,

    Terry

You write to your blog nearly everyday and you find things to write about here. I'd be happy to review and edit whatever you write when you are ready to put pen to paper.
