Being a Wolfpack fan is one of the hardest things anyone can ever do. Wolfpack fans are generally loyal to death, you have to be in order to tolerate the constant level of disappoint that comes with the territory. 95% of Wolfpack fans are good normal people, its that 5% of the State Fan nation that is utterly disappointing. I know every group of fans has this 5% of obnoxious message board mouth breathers who think their team is the end all be all of college athletics and NC State is certainly not the exception to the rule. These Wolfpack MBMBs need to realize that NC State is not a big named school, we aren’t even in the same hemisphere as the Ohio States, USCs, Texas, just to name a few. People are greatly over estimating the name power associated with NC State.

With all the rumors swirling around Chuck Amato’s hopefully impending firing, the message board mouth breathers (MBMB) are buzzing with potential replacements for a job that isn’t even open yet. Now rather then go into my list of who I think would make a good replacement, I would like to point out how stupid some of the options that are being said are.

Bill Cowher - This one is not completely unfathomable b/c of the ties, new house in Raleigh and a butt load of other factors, but it is highly unlikely. Wolfpack fans should realize this is around a 20% chance of happening and that is being generous.

Norm Chow - The emotional runner up to Bill Cowher is Norm Chow. Chow’s history of amazing offensive innovations, connections to State, and the rumors that he’s always wanted to be a head coach make this one a decent fit and a possibility. What is NOT going to happen is to have Norm Chow come back as an Off. Coordinator. There is no chance in hell nor any reason for it. Why would he leave the NFL as an offensive coordinator to come to a mid-level program for the same position. Only a Head Coaching offer would even get him to think about leaving the NFL for Raleigh.

Steve Kragthorpe - The current head coach at Tulsa has already said he wouldn’t leave for the UNC job, so he’s def not going to leave for the NC State job.

Gary Petterson - The current head coach at TCU. While he would be an excellent coach anywhere, he has turned down other jobs and is probably holding out for a big time offer (Alabama Maybe?). He is def. not leaving football crazed state of Texas to come to basketball crazed NC. It’s just not going to happen.

Mike Leech - The current head coach at Texas Tech. Another not likely to leave the football state of Texas. While I’d love to have the high powered offense that Mike Leech is known for, his job is low pressure and his teams play zero defense.

Steve Logan - He’s getting paid by ECU through the end of this century of somewhere around then. Has also stated he’s happy where he is at now (on the radio and NFL Europe).

NC State fans have to come to the understanding that we are not a big name school. No matter how big the facilities, or how hard we want to believe it, coaching at NC State is not as attractive as we would all hope (see Basketball Coaching Search). The Pack needs a consistent and disciplined coach who is offensive minded and can deal with the very passionate fan base.
