Jumpin Jonny’s Cheesesteaks at Brier Creek
Jen just posted her review of Jumpin Jonny’s so I thought I would add mine before I forgot.
The philly cheesesteak is second to no sandwich and in my book it is 1.a. with a Meatball sub at 1.b. I consider myself a connoisseur of the philly cheesesteak for my love of the delicious sandwich and the fact that I worked for almost 2 years standing behind a hot grill whippin’ up delicious cheese steaks for the former Steak N’ Hoagie shop in Crossroads shopping center. You know you can trust what this cheesesteak expert has to say.
With that said I was excited to hear that there was a dedicated philly cheesesteak and we quickly added it to our ever growing list of places to try. Jumpin’ Jonny’s is in a side of Brier Creek that I rarely go to, the side with the Wal-Mart. The traffic patterns are ridiculous as are the crowds over there so unless someone told us about it, we probably wouldn’t have ever found it. It is tucked away between a mattress place and an empty (i think) storefront and when I say “tucked away”, I mean it. Jumpin Johnny’s is extremely small with only 3 two-person tables and a few wobbly stools at the bar area (which made us very uneasy, almost like they were going to collapse on us). They do have a few tables outside but seeing as its only about 20 degrees outside we didn’t explore them.
You walk in and are greeted by the extremely friendly staff with a large menu slapped on the wall. The menu is simple (menu), a few variations of cheesesteaks and hot sandwiches, salads and fries. Thats how it should be. I ordered a triple cheese cheeseteak, Jen got the cheesesteak deluxe and we split an order of fresh cut fries. We had our food in a few minutes and began to dig in.
There is only 1 size sandwich at Jumpin Jonny’s and its about an 8 incher. There bread is not your average hoagie roll its a wider and softer then your average roll and I liked it very much. The meat was cooked well but lacked a little flavor, we added salt and pepper and that helped but this could have been done on the grill. I would have also like the meat to fill out the large roll a little more. Bits on both ends of the roll were all cheese and bread. The cheese was also a minor issue. While it tasted good, it should have been melted throughout. This is also something that should have been done on the grill. I used to squirt a little water on the grill to create steam and help melt the cheese, but Jumpin Jonny’s could just use another 60 seconds on the grill and the cheese would have been better. Jersey Mike’s does a great job with there cheesesteak’s cheese for reference.
Overall, Jumpin Jonny’s at Brier Creek was pretty good. I’d def. recommend it for a lunch stop if you are close by. It’s a no frills place where you can get cheap decent food and friendly service. It is pretty new so maybe they are still working out the kinks but with a few minor improvements, Jumpin Jonny’s could be one of the better cheesesteak places around.
*They have some good specials which are on their website
**There website could use some SEO help by me - I work for free cheesesteaks. ![]()
