I’ve never felt so bad for a player as I did last night.

For some reason I was watching the Rangers vs White Sox on the HD channel. The game was a blowout but I left it on anyway and I’m glad I did. I go to see just why so many people consider Ozzie Guillen and asshole.

Vincente Padilla, the Rangers pitcher was in complete control of the game (7k’s in 8 scoreless innings) but for some reason kept hitting White Sox catcher AJ Pierzynski.

Pierzynski was hit by pitches his first two at-bats, prompting home plate umpire Phil Cuzzi to issue warnings to both benches in the fourth.

“I don’t know what the deal was. He had pretty good control and then he runs two first pitches in on me,” Pierzynski said. `Why did he do it? You’re going to have to ask him. I faced him maybe two times in the National League.”

For those who don’t know, in baseball there is this stupid unwritten rule that if you hit my guy with a pitch, we’ll hit one of your guys. Its some sort of man law that baseball has been trying to keep under control for the last few years.

Well, Ozzie was visibly upset by Padilla hitting Pierzsynski the second time and went to rookie pitcher Sean Tracey and told him to plunk Hank Blaylock. Now there is no evidence that he said this, no one will ever admit it, but it is the only possible way it could have gone down. It was that obvious.

Tracey’s first two pitches were clear inside and brushing back Blaylock, who made no effort to get out of the way, but I don’t think Tracy, who was pitching in only his 3rd major league game, was comfortable with doing this and who could blame him.

Tracey eventually got Blaylock to ground out but this was not good enough for Ozzie Guillen, because the camera immediately caught him slamming his water bottle to the ground, pull Tracey out of the game after only one batter, and verbally rape him in the dougout. It wasn’t your usually scolding, he laid into him. Tracey was so upset he sat there and pulled his jersey over his face and it looked like he was almost in tears.

After the game Guillen made some stupid comment about the incident saying he was upset because he couldn’t get another pitcher ready in time to face Blaylock.

Tracey had no comment and today got sent back down to the minors.
